Greater Manchester Cycle Network Map

extract from cycle mapA key target in the second Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan (LTP) is to increase the number of cycle trips by 6% over the period of the Plan. One of the steps that the LTP identified to encourage cycling was to publish a Greater Manchester Cycle Network map.

Forecasting and Analytical Services was commissioned by the LTP Joint Transport Team to produce a set of ten paper maps covering each of the Greater Manchester districts and also to publish the maps on-line on the CycleGM website. GMTU’s work on the project involved:

  • collating, checking and agreeing a database of all current and proposed cycle routes in Greater Manchester

  • managing the appointment of Pindar Graphics for all cartographic and printing work

  • supplying all data and text for the maps and agreeing map layouts and graphic design

  • publishing the maps on the CycleGM website.

The project culminated with the launch of the paper maps on “In Town Without My Car Day” in September 2006.

There is now an online interactive map of the cycle routes.
